Agave inulin: what it is and how to take it

Agave inulin is a soluble prebiotic fibre, slightly sweet, that mixes easily and barely alters the flavour of preparations. In this guide we explain what it is, how to introduce it gradually and how to use it day to day.

Point 1

What agave inulin is

It is a soluble fibre of the fructo-oligosaccharide type extracted from agave. It is considered a prebiotic because it feeds the beneficial bacteria of the gut flora.

It adds a very light sweetness and dissolves well cold or lukewarm, which makes it easy to add to drinks and recipes.

Point 2

How to start taking it

As it is a fibre, it is best to introduce it gradually so the body can adapt. A common guideline is to start with about 5 g a day and slowly increase to around 10 g.

Dissolve it in cold or room-temperature liquid. It is best not to exceed 130 °C to keep its properties.

Point 3

Uses in the kitchen

It is ideal for enriching shakes and smoothies with fibre, mixing it into yoghurt or kefir and making functional drinks.

It can also act as a partial sugar substitute in some recipes, thanks to its slight sweetness.
